What is a Coureurs De Bois you ask?

Well the loose translation would be "Woods Runner" or "Wanderer of the Woods."

Monsieur Viseux (Pronounced... Vis-owe) gives a "First Person" interpretation of these earliest of the French Fur Traders (time period 1650 to 1750) as well as a concise time line of the main "events" of the French Fur Trade Era.

Speaking with a heavy French accent, Monsieur Viseux will discuss the earliest beginnings of the great Fur Trade Era with your group.

Speaking in detail...he will explain who the Coureurs De Bois were and how they lived. You will learn how the French Fur Trade developed and how it evolved over the years.

You will see a hands-on demonstration of the types of goods that were traded, and understand why these items were valuable to the native Indians.

The camp itself is a 12x12 diamond shelter. Learn how Monsieur Viseux lives year-around in this small shelter and the techniques used to sleep warmly and comfortably...even in the winter snow and bitter cold!

All clothing worn by Monsieur Viseux, and all items he displays and uses will be correct for the time period presented.

Actual early 1600s to 1860 trade beads are displayed and sold on the "trade Blanket", an authentic form of commerce for the period. Demonstrations of Pipestone Pipe "Carving", Period Leather Working", Flint and Steel Fire Starting and other primitive skills can be performed.

If your group is interested in a presentation of the latter portion of the French Fur Trade (post 1750,) Monsieur Viseux can appear as a French Voyageur.
